Julia Roberts reveals Pretty Woman’s darkish unique ending
While Pretty Woman had a contented ending, the unique draft of the film completed issues on a a lot darker be aware.
The hit 1990 romcom was a star-making flip for Julia Roberts, although the actress has opened up about how the film almost turned out. She revealed the movie’s unique ending in a dialog with Patricia Arquette, who auditioned for the film when it was generally known as 3,000.
“So many, many, a few years in the past, one among my early auditions was for a film known as 3,000,” Arquette mentioned as a part of Variety‘s Actors on Actors collection. “Most folks don’t know that 3,000 was the unique Pretty Woman script. And the ending was actually heavy.
“Threw her out of the car, threw the money on top of her, as memory serves, and just drove away, leaving her in some dirty alley,” Roberts recalled.
Arquette described that incarnation as a “gritty art movie” versus the romcom it turned out to be.
Roberts then revealed that the unique model by no means noticed the sunshine of day as a result of a small film firm “folded”.
“There was one producer that stayed with the script, and it went to Disney. I thought, ‘Went to Disney? Are they going to animate it?'” she continued.
“[Director] Garry Marshall came on, and because he’s a great human being, he felt it would only be fair to meet me, since I had this job for three days and lost it. And they changed the whole thing. And it became more something that is in my wheelhouse.”
She added of 3,000: “I couldn’t do it then. I couldn’t do it now. Thank God it fell apart.”
