In case you haven’t noticed, being Justin Bieber can be downright life-threatening. The pop world’s obsession with the teen phenomenon reached a boiling point — Yes, again (Sigh…) — on Thursday when an undercover New York City police officer attempted to protect Bieber from the usual rowdy gaggle of young women hot on his trail and nearly got his lights punched out by the “Baby” hitmaker instead.
Now there’s a fight we’d pay cold hard cash to see.
Biebs is in the Big Apple promoting the launch of his new women’s fragrance, Someday. He swung by Macy’s Herald Square flagship store for a promotional event this event — that’s when the drama started, according to New York’s FOX 5. Biebs was greeting 3,000 of his screaming fans when a man jumped over a security barricade at a promotional event and knocked the singer to the ground. Well — that had to hurt. Turns out, the man in question was a plainclothes police officer. Too bad Justin didn’t know that!
The singer — unaware that the man was an officer trying to keep him from being skinned alive by aggressive teeners — took a swing at the man. Bieber’s security team stepped in — and that’s when things got really ugly. The angry officer reportedly cited a member of Bieber’s security detail with disorderly conduct. After a discussion, both sides sorted out the mistaken identity incident and a shaken Justin was allowed to return to the event.

Justin appeared shaken by incident, but returned – holding his arm – to greet the rest of his fans. This isn’t the first time Bieber has had problems at a New York appearance. A cancelled Bieber CD signing at Long Island’s Roosevelt Field Mall erupted in chaos in Oct. 2009 after thousands of fans mobbed the shopping center. The singer’s mother was famously knocked to the ground by JB fans — who also stole the singer’s hat — at an airport in Australia last year.
Bieber is expected to accompany girlfriend Selena Gomez to tonight’s premiere of the actress’ new comedy, Monte Carlo.
