Outspoken former MSNBC television personality Keith Olbermann — who departed the cable news network last month, following a series of run-ins with channel brass — is joining public affairs channel Current TV.
Current TV, which has struggled with low ratings despite counting former vice-president Al Gore among its founders, is currently available in just 60 million homes.
“Greetings from Keith Olbermann, Chief News Officer of Current Media! And awayyyyyy we go!” the former Countdown with Keith Olbermann host wrote in a Tweet to fans on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old –who first rose to prominence as a sportscaster — will host a nightly primetime news and commentary show on the network. Keith’ll also serve as Chief News Officer and get an equity stake in the network.
“In Current Media, Al Gore and Joel Hyatt have created the model truth-seeking entity,” Olbermann added. “The opportunity to partner with Al, Joel and Mark Rosenthal makes this the most exciting venture in my career.”
Keith’s new gig begins this spring.
