The late-night comedy circuit’s going to have a Field Day tonight: The former CBS News producer imprisoned for trying to blackmail staff shagger David Letterman is up for an Emmy Award.
On Thursday, Robert “Joe” Halderman was nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy for his participation in an April 2009 48 Hours report about Amanda Knox, an American exchange student convicted and sentenced to 27 years in an Italian prison for the murder of her roommate. Halderman was one of four producers cited for the story.
Halderman began a six-month jail sentence in May for trying to extort money from Letterman in exchange for not revealing the late-night host of affairs with employees — one of which was Halderman’s former girlfriend.
The awards will be presented Sept. 27 in New York.
