Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. is fulfilling her promise to bring a free concert to her fans in the Big Apple

M.I.A. plans to perform an intimate show free of charge at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Wednesday, Oct. 6, Interscope Records said Monday.

In July — days before her third album /\/\ /\ Y /\ was released — the “Paper Planes” hitmaker, 35, was forced offstage early at the Hard NYC Event on Govenors Island when a huge thunderstorm broke out, sparking fears she could be electrocuted during her performance The early finish prompted criticism from some fans — and M.I.A. responded by promising to play a free concert in the Big Apple for all ticketholders.

Now she’s making good on her vow.

Tickets are available to fans 18 and older, and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis on the “Born Free” hitmaker’s official website. Doors are expected to open at 9:30 PM — but fans may begin lining up as early as 7 PM.
