Margot Robbie Will Play Harley Quinn Again in 'Gotham City Sirens'; Solo 'Deadsh…

Suicide Squad director David Ayer will return to the DC Cinematic Universe and reunite with Margot Robbie for a new all-female, all-villain movie called Gotham City Sirens. Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, and she’ll reportedly be joined by other female villains like Poison Ivy and Catwoman. We wouldn’t be surprised if another cameo from Ben Affleck’s Batman is thrown in, too, because… well, how can you have a movie set in Gotham City without Batman.

Except maybe that’s the point here — maybe the way to expand the DC Cinematic Universe is to make Gotham City itself a main character, with the stories told within it becoming its own cinematic universe under the DC umbrella. Incidentally, The Hollywood Reporter also notes that a solo Deadshot movie is being explored for Will Smith in addition to a sequel to Suicide Squad, which is also in the works.

Gotham City Sirens is currently being written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who’s been handling writing duties on the Tomb Raider reboot as well. Considering Robbie’s Harley Quinn was arguably the best part of Suicide Squad (she was so good her performance earned her a Critics’ Choice Award), it’s wise to both create an entire film around her while also playing into the growing demand for more female-driven movies.

Fans are already itching to debate casting choices, and both Catwoman and Poison Ivy have appeared in other live action movies, with Anne Hathaway and Uma Thurman being the last to portray the characters, respectively. Recently, Sienna Miller — who’s costarring alongside Ben Affleck in Live By Night — revealed to us that she’d love to play Catwoman in a movie, so throw her name on the list to start.

No release date is set yet, but it’s being fast-tracked. Expect more soon. Who else would you like to see show up in Gotham City Sirens?
