Either Matt LeBlanc is really sick of people connecting him with his Friends alter ego or someone’s been spending way too much time with Mel Gibson and Naomi Campbell.
We hear LeBlanc is so fed up with fans referring to him as his Friends character Joey that he flipped into Full Bitch Mode and launched into a foul-mouthed tirade at partygoers in Britain on Tuesday.
The star rose to fame playing lovable aspiring actor Joey Tribbiani alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer on the hit sitcom between 1994-2004. But Matt’s seemingly grown tired of fans who still greet him with Joey’s signature catchphrase “How you doin’?” and he reportedly became incensed during a London Fashion Week party on Tuesday when he heard the comment shouted from a fellow reveller.
“I’m not Joey. Don’t you dare call me Joey. The papers say I’m finished so don’t you call me f**king Joey. I want to leave that all behind. I’m moving on… I’m not Joey. For the last time. I’m not f**king Joey. It’s Matt. Matt LeBlanc. Joey’s in the past. I’m trying to do something new,” the actor fumed, according to a scoop from London’s Daily Mirror.
LeBlanc went on to film two unsuccessfuly seasons of the Friends spinoff show Joey, but he’s seen his fortunes fade on the job front following the show’s cancellation in 2006.
However, in a recent interview, LeBlanc insisted that he doesn’t mind still being linked with his famous Friends role: “If people really believe me as that character, I have done my job. I don’t look on it as a negative thing. I take it as a compliment.”
