‘Modern Family’ cast still negotiating contracts as Season 4 looms
According to The Hollywood Reporter, all six adult members of the cast — all of whom earned Emmy nominations on Thursday (July 19) — are seeking new contracts that would given them significant raises. Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara are reportedly negotiating together, a la the “Friends” cast in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Ed O’Neill is also seeking a raise, but it’s not clear if he’s part of the group or not. O’Neill made a little over $ 100,000 per episode last year, the HR says, while the rest of the adult cast earned $ 65,000 per episode.
They’re reportedly seeking salaries in the range of $ 200,000 per episode, plus part of the show’s back-end profits — and sources tell the Reporter they may not show up for a scheduled table read on Tuesday if new deals aren’t in place. Another source, however, says the actors will come to work.
“Modern Family” tied “The Big Bang Theory” as the top-rated comedy on TV among adults 18-49 last season — and the top scripted shows, period — averaging a 5.5 rating in the demographic. It drew about 13 million viewers overall.
The show earned 14 Emmy nominations on Thursday, including the six for the actors and a third consecutive nod for outstanding comedy series. It’s won the award the past two years.
