Have you picked up your Halloween costume yet? Fall is here — and it’s never too early to get to work on the ghoulish ensemble you’ll be wearing to frighten trick-or-treaters and little old ladies in Hoverounds this All Hallows’ Eve.
This year, revellers are swapping ghouls and goblins for outre garb and guidos. Costumes inspired by pop powerhouse Lady Gaga and the cast of the Jack & Coke-soaked MTV reality soap Jersey Shore are projected to be among the best-selling costumes this Halloween.
Gaga and the self-appointed guidos and guidettes of Jersey Shore are sure to be among the biggest sellers this year, according to Spirit Halloween — America’s largest retailer of all things Halloween-related. In fact, costumes patterned after Snooki, The Situation, and the many bizarre looks of Lady Gaga — including the blue onesie she wore in the “Poker Face” video — are already flying off the shelves, says Steven Silverstein, President and CEO of Spirit Halloween.
“Our experienced team of buyers travels the world to identify the season’s hottest costume trends. This year’s selections are a reflection of consumer style – a combination of cutting edge headlines and familiar retro favorites.”
Other costumes expected to be seen on the streets in full force this holiday season are ensembles based on the popular films Avatar and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Characters from Iron Man 2 and Toy Story 4 will be represented in large numbers as well. Retro faves are making a comeback. Be on the lookout for Nintendo’s Super Bros. plumbers Mario and Luigi, celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.
