A commitment was announced by Nokia and Microsoft in 2008. According to it, Silverlight can be used for some Nokia cell phones that are based on the Symbian operating system.

With the help of the installable executable file users can take advantage of Silverlight applications on the Nokia S60 5th Edition platform. The executable file involves the Silverlight runtime for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices, sample applications, and developer documentation and the Silverlight runtime for Nokia S60 5th Edition emulator.

The description of the Silverlight for Symbian beta says that due to the installable executable, the Nokia S60 5th Edition platform can run Silverlight applications.

You will be able to download these two offerings starting from March 14, it is considered to be the time when Microsoft’s annual Mix Web developer conference begins.

The two companies expected that such deal would help develop the port of Silverlight to Symbian by the end of 2008. But, in fact, they will be closes in two years later in case they deliver the final by the end of this calendar year.
