'Ocean's Eight' Adds Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and More, Plus: How It Connects to &…
We love it when a good plan comes together, especially when that plan involves a heist and a fantastic ensemble. You may have heard about Ocean’s Eight, a spinoff of the Ocean’s movies, including Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, that revolves around an all-female cast.
That cast features Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett as its two leads (similar to the way George Clooney and Brad Pitt) headed the other Ocean’s movies, and now we’ve learned that they will be joined by Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and the Asian-American rapper Awkwafina, the latter of whom recently costarred in Neighbors 2 for those not as familiar with her work. She’s also well known for her comedy videos on YouTube.
And yes, this will definitely connect to the other Ocean’s movies in that Bullock will be playing the ex-con sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean in a plot that is said to revolve around a jewel heist at New York’s glitzy Met Gala, known for its over-the-top wardrobe selections and red carpet flare.
Also teased are potential cameos from stars of the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, with Clooney, Pitt and Matt Damon the likely faces we could see pop up. We wouldn’t be surprised if Clooney pops up at the very least considering Bullock’s character is his sister, plus it’ll be a fun way to connect the movies.
The eighth member of the group is still unknown, though we do know that Hunger Games director Gary Ross will be behind the camera with original Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh producing and perhaps assisting with the camerawork, as he so often does. No release date just yet as the film is still casting, but with multiple Oscar winners among its ensemble, this is gonna be a fun one to say the least.
