Afjal Guru, sentenced to death by the Supreme Court and his life depending solely on mercy petition to the President of India, has found a sympathizer in Omer Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.

In an interview to a news channel, he lamented at those who want to politicize the issue. He is of the opinion that the law should be allowed to take its course. He said that there are checks and balances in our legal systems. These balances should be fully explored and carried out, before a final course of the action is taken.

Aiming at those who have complaints about delay in hanging Afjal Guru for terrorist attack on Parliament, Omar Abdullah said that any person in such a case has the right to knock at multiple doors including that of the President.

Replying on the mercy petition, he said that no one cares and speaks about the other 29 people who are on the death row. The media is interested only one individual called Afjal Guru.

He was of the view that the trial has been more by media than a trial by judiciary and it seems as if there is a political move made to hang him. He said that the law must be allowed hold its course.
