‘Once Upon a Time’ spin-off casts Alice

The cast of ABC’s Once Upon a Time mini spin-off continues to take shape.

EW has confirmed that actress Sophie Lowe (Road Kill) has landed the role of Alice in the project, now titled Once: Wonderland.

She joins a cast that also includes Being Human‘s Michael Socha, who plays the Knave of Hearts, and Peter Gadiot, an actor with only a few credits to his name, who plays Alice’s mysterious love interest, Cyrus.

The cast is set to helm a small test presentation being pulled together by Once creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, with help from former River EP Zack Estrin and Once writer Jane Espenson. The project, which is set in pre-curse Wonderland, will film in Vancouver — also home to Once — following the mother show’s season 2 wrap.

Just a few weeks ago, EW caught up with Horowitz and Kitsis at Paleyfest, who called talked of a full spin-off “premature,” but acknowledged that should their test footage inspire the desire for a full pilot and/or series, it would be step in a different direction. “The idea is not a spin-off in the traditional sense — another five-year, 22-episode series,” Kitsis said. “It’s much more in the vein of an American Horror Story, with a beginning, middle, and end.”
