Daytime Fans will have their eyes and ears glued to the screens of their television sets on Monday afternoon as The Queen of Talk Oprah Winfrey prepares to blow the lid off of a blockbuster “family secret.”
“I was given some news that literally shook me to my core,” Winfrey, 56, says in a teaser for today’s show. “This time, I’m the one being reunited. I was keeping a family secret for months, and on Monday you’re going to hear it straight from me. I thought I’d seen it all. But this, my friends, is the miracle of all miracles,” she added.
So what could it be?
Well, the Chicago press believes it’s unearthed the latest skeleton that’s about to come rolling out of O’s closet. According to Kitty Kelley, who penned an unauthorized biography about the TV titan in 2010, Winfrey will meet her younger half-sister for the first time in an on-air family reunion that’s sure to be a ratings smash.
TimeOut Chicago writes: “…Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee, gave birth to the daughter named Bunny, whom she ‘gave away shortly after she was born because she couldn’t afford to take care of her.’ Bunny, who is now a grandmother, will appear with Oprah on Monday’s show…”
Bunny — whose real name is Patricia — says she had been searching for years for the identity of the mother who gave her up for adoption in 1963. She says she learned in 2007 that Oprah is her half-sister. The pair met for the first time over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Winfrey was 9 years old and living with her father when her mother gave birth to Patricia. She says she never even knew Vernita was pregnant. Patricia was in foster care for seven years before she was adopted. She’s now a single mother living in Milwaukee.
