President Obama On “Mythbusters” [Sneak Peek]

Heads up, Science Lovers: President Obama’s coming to Mythbusters.

Never one to shy away for a beer conference or a guest spot on late-night TV, Obama is now turning his efforts to a bid to promote science education. In this sneak peek clip, we get our first look at the Commander-in-Chief’s guest spot on the Discovery Channel’s hit sci-series Mythbusters, airing next month. In the episode, Obama tasks Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman with the duty of re-testing the myth of the Archimedes Solar Ray, a controversial principle that questions whether or not Greek scientist and polymath Archimedes set fire to an invading Roman fleet using only mirrors and the reflected rays of the sun?

“I’m pleased to welcome Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, known as the Mythbusters. I can announce today that I taped a special guest appearance for their show, although I didn’t get to blow anything up. I was a little frustrated about that.”

Adam and Jamie have tried and busted the myth twice before. On the Obama episode, airing Dec. 8, hosts Jamie and Adam try to prove the veracity of the historical scientific tale as part of a White House Science Fair. This time the President wants them to up their manpower, leading the Mythbusters to enlist 500 student volunteers to help attempt to set fire to an invading fleet of ships using only mirrors and the sun.

Obama’s Mythbusters episode airs on Wednesday, Dec. 8 @ 9/8c on Discovery.
