‘Quantico’: Is one of Alex’s closest partners a traitor?

“Quantico” is up to all its old tricks, casting suspicion on anyone and everyone in Alex’s (Priyanka Chopra) life in regards to this latest terrorist attack.

From the get-go, we’ve suspected that the secret branch of the CIA Alex and Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) have been investigating are behind the attack on the financial sector, the abduction of the President and his summit and the execution of the first Lady. We just never expected the person who put her on the case might be in on the scheme.

Unfortunately, while we’ve been debating which CIA recruits are on Team Terrorist, we’ve been ignoring suspects in the FBI. As it turns out, we should have been paying closer attention to Miranda (Aunjanue Ellis), who might be the biggest traitor of them all.

After Alex finds a way to contact Miranda from the safety of an underground NYPD bunker, Miranda orders her to investigate further and report back with intel. That all sounds well and good, but she then uses a satellite phone to inform the terrorists that Alex Parrish is in the building. Et tu, Miranda?

We guess we should have been more suspicious at her outrage over being left out of those meetings with the Vice President, and her unwillingness to strike out against the terrorists, but we figured it was just Miranda being Miranda — confrontational yet cautious.

Now, we’re wondering if there’s not a darker reason behind her desire to be in on the political conversations going on behind closed doors.

At this point, we’re unwilling to believe that Miranda has truly betrayed her country. It’s possible that the terrorists are compelling her to help them, which leads us to speculate about Miranda’s son, Charlie (J. Mallory McCree).

Liam (Josh Hopkins) revealed in the Season 1 finale that Charlie passed away due to his injuries sustained in the shootout at his house. But, is Liam really a dependable source of information? The guy was a terrorist and an expert liar! If Charlie is, in fact, alive, he’s one of the only people in the world Miranda would betray her government and country for.

Whatever her motives, let’s hope Alex can recognize a trap better than she could a year ago. Right now, her CIA training is feeling like a big bust.

Back at the farm, we’re treated to a fun game of cat and mouse as the recruits tail each other through Williamsburg. Unfortunately for Alex, she’s the mouse in this situation — or more accurately, the rabbit.

As much as we want to high five Harry (Russell Tovey) for pointing out that Alex looked way too fabulous to be on the run last year (seriously, that girl’s hair game is always on point) we’re a little miffed with him for playing Alex the way he did. Sure, a blind man could have spotted his deception and realized he was the trigger, but Alex has always been too friendly to see when she’s being tricked.

It almost makes us wonder if that cop who sacrifices himself for her in the flash forward might have been a plant. “Trust no one,” is basically the only advice we can give to survive this season of “Quantico.”

“Quantico” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
