Rapper-turned-actress Queen Latifah will return as host of the 37th Annual People’s Choice Awards for the fifth consecutive year.

“We are excited to empower the fans to help determine new categories for the 2011 show,” Fred Nelson, president of People’s Choice, said in a statement Monday. “After all, who’s better qualified to identify the best pop culture trends and moments of the year than the fans themselves?”

The event, in which fans honor their favorites in movies, music and television, will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Jan. 5. Fans are invited to vote on which new categories should be added to the show, including Favorite Horror Movie, Favorite TV Family, and Favorite Music Performance. Mark Burnett will return as executive producer of the CBS award show for the second year.
