Soon radiotherapy will take just half an hour for its completion in order to treat breast cancer patients. At present, it takes more than six weeks of radiotherapy, which is a tedious regime for the patients.
The very short duration of the treatment is now possible thanks mainly to the British doctors and an Indian doctor in a research team headed by University Collage London’s Dr Jayant S Vaidya.
Under the new technique, only a specific area of the breast tumour will be treated with radiotherapy and the tumour will be blasted inside the breast in one shot that will last for half an hour. For this the radiation will be used on the areas around the tumour.
