Reel TV: The 'Let the Right One In' TV Show Finds New Blood
Fans tend to get very defensive about remakes. Maybe they think the idea that a movie is even remake candidate implies there was something wrong with the original version. Maybe they think the first is flawless and anything else is a waste of time. Maybe they think a remake means all copies of the original will be destroyed.
Whatever the case, if you happen to be a hardcore, ‘don’t remake it!’ fan of the brilliant 2008 vampire movie Let the Right One In, today brings some bad news. It’s being remade. Again. If you happen to have an open mind about remakes, though, this is some very intriguing news.
This new version is almost guaranteed to be even more of a departure from the original film than 2010’s Let Me In (which is a fantastic film in its own right), since it’s being reborn as a TV show written by the mind behind MTV’s surprisingly fun Teen Wolf series, Jeff Davis. The show had tried to get off the ground last year at A&E, but for unknown reasons that never happened. TNT has stepped in this time, though, and have taken things one step further by committing to a pilot.
We don’t yet know who will star as the young vampire girl or the human boy who becomes obsessed with her. We don’t know who will direct the pilot, either. All we know is that a few Teen Wolf creatives are involved, as is Let Me In producer Simon Oakes, and that the show is claiming to be more of a readaptation of the book by John Lindqvist than a remake of Tomas Alfredson’s film.
If the show does go to series, you can expect it won’t be until next fall. In the mean time, just rewatch either Let the Right One In or Let Me In as a reminder of just how fantastic this story is.
