Refresh your memory on ‘Sense8’ before the Christmas special
Netflix’s craziest sci-fi/fantasy show, “Sense8,” is officially back for Christmas, but it feels like forever since we last saw our favorite sensates.
In truth, it’s been a year and half since the first season dropped on Netflix in June of 2015, meaning if you binged the whole series in one go, you might need a little refresher course on who’s who and what happened before the show returns for its two-hour Christmas special.

Lito came out as gay
Lito (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) spent most of Season 1 trying to keep his relationship with his long-time boyfriend, Hernando (Alfonso Herrera) a secret. He even worked out a deal with Daniela (Eréndira Ibarra) to keep his public persona as a straight man intact. At the end of Season 1, however, Lito decides to let his blackmailer expose him so he can be who he is, proudly and without fear.
Will made eye contact with Whispers
Making eye contact with a sensate outside of your cluster gives them an all-access pass to your brain, and Will (Brian J. Smith) accidentally established that connection to Whispers (Terrence Mann) in the season finale. Now, Will won’t be able to see or know where he is if he wants to keep his whereabouts (and those of his cluster, by extension) safe from Whispers’ evil plans.
Wolfgang told Kala to marry Rajan
Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) and Kala’s (Tina Desai) romance seemed beautiful and timeless until it came to a screeching halt, when she witnessed Wolfgang mercilessly execute his uncle in cold blood. Afterwards, he told her she had to marry her fiancé instead of pursuing a romance with him. Seems like good advice she probably won’t actually take.
Sun is still in prison
You read that right — Sun (Bae Doona) still hasn’t made it out of prison yet. It would be a bummer if she spent the whole series locked behind bars, but at least she’s managed a taste of the outside world via her cluster. We expect much more mental butt-kicking from her in the future.
Capheus killed a bunch of bandits
Capheus (Toby Onwumere) decided not to hand Kabaka’s (Peter King Mwania) daughter over to his enemies — and with Sun’s help, slaughtered a bunch of them and led them on a wild chase through Nairobi. We assume Kabaka will reward his loyalty, but we’re still worried he’s made quite a few enemies with that choice.
Jonas is Whispers’ prisoner
Jonas (Naveen Andrews), the calm and collected mentor to our sensates, was captured by Whispers in Season 1. He remains locked away in Iceland, still aiding Whispers’ search but also helping Will and Riley (Tuppence Middleton) escape. At the end of Season 1, he urged Will to commit suicide to save his cluster. Yikes.
“Sense8: A Christmas Special” airs Friday (Dec.23) at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on Netflix.
