Move over, Madame Whitney: Producers of an upcoming revamp of The Bodyguard have fallen head over heels with pop tart Rihanna.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Films greenlit an updated adaptation of the hit 1992 action romance, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner as singing star under siege who falls in love with the former Secret Service agent hired to protect her. It was one of the studio’s biggest global hits that year, taking in $411 million worldwide and spawning the No. 1 Billboard hit, “I Will Always Love You.”

“The new film is similar, including the love story, but the bodyguard will be a former Iraq War veteran who gets the job protecting the star as his first gig after leaving the Army….” The Mirror writes.

Now that screenwriters Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer have been tapped to pen the new film, bosses at the WB have commenced their search for the young female singer who will play the lead. Rihanna, who makes her acting debut in next year’s action flick Battleship, is reportedly the frontrunner. Other names are also being linked to the film, include stripper-turned-actor Channing Tatum, Miley Cyrus and Beyonce, who is already due to star in Clint Eastwood’s remake of Judy Garland’s A Star Is Born.
