We hear Hollywood veteran Robert Wagner, 80, has been cast as the “Voice of Charlie” in ABC’s television remake of the iconic ’70s crime series Charlie’s Angels.
Wagner — who owned 50 percent of the original TV series — will voice the role of Angels employer Charlie, the oft-heard-but-neven-seen owner of the Charles Townsend Agency, according to Showbiz 411 Gossip Guy Roger Friedman. The role was originated by the late John Forsythe, who advised sexy secret agents Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, and later Cheryl Ladd from the confines of a speakerbox for more than five seasons.
The Charlie’s Angels reboot will switch the action from its original Los Angeles setting to steamy Miami. Drew Barrymore, who produced and starred in two hit Charlie’s Angels movies, will also serve as a producer for series. Hollywood snoops are remaining tight-lipped on which actresses might be tapped to step into the roles of the iconic Angels, but Lucy Liu — who completed the trio that included Drew and Cameron Diaz as the big screen Angels — has reportedly been courted for a role on the show.
Production begins in January. A premiere date has not been set.
