Production was suspended on the set of NCIS Wednesday when a security guard was killed after being struck by a service vehicle being driven by another employee.
A 60-year-old man driving passenger van was experiencing some kind of medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle, hitting the guard, 52, eyewitnesses tell TMZ. The accident occurred around 10:10 AM PST at 24800 Avenue Rockefeller, a vacant industrial building used for film and television productions, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Konecny. According to Konecny, the van had just dropped off passengers and was pulling into a parking lot when the driver blacked out due to an unspecified medical condition. The van accelerated, striking the unidentified guard.
The security guard was transported to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
“Everyone at the network, the studio and ‘NCIS’ is devastated by the news. Our hearts grieve for his family and friends for this tragic loss,” CBS said in the statement. “We are, of course, cooperating with the local authorities in Santa Clarita to help determine what caused this terrible accident. Production on the show has been suspended.”
NCIS, now in its ninth season, was recently renewed by CBS.
