On Tuesday, Sony unveiled its two latest models of cameras that it had earlier announced to produce with specifications of interchangeable lenses, D-SLR-quality images, HD video and near D-SLR speed. The Sony’s new cameras are called NEX-3 and NEX-5 that differ only in their build materials, video recording capabilities and price.
Sony’s NEX cameras will give tough competition to Panasonic and Olympus cameras as they can offer better image quality because they incorporate larger APS-C size image sensor (23.6-by-15.7mm) versus the Micro Four Thirds sensor (17.3-by-13mm).
The NEX series of cameras are half in size and weight as compared to Sony’s lightest and smallest D-SLR, the Sony A230. The NEX-5 is just 1.56 inches thick while the NEX-3 is 1.38 inches thick.
The NEX-3 offers 720p video capture using the MP4 codec which enables sharing in HD on YouTube while the NEX-5 has the capability to make larger 1080i60 videos with the higher quality AVCHD codec.
These cameras will be available with three new lenses, all of which are optimized for video recording and the iris and focus motor are purely silent. They provide a user friendly interface along with the beautiful LCD 3-inch wide screen.
The NEX-3 and NEX-5 are expected to release in market in July in silver and black while the NEX-3 will also be available in Red color. The price details of Sony’s latest cameras are-
