Star Wars Bites: Woody Harrelson Gets Official, While a Live-Action TV Show Is Still Far, Far A…
Last week a report emerged that the filmmakers behind the young Han Solo movie wanted Woody Harrelson for a key role as a mentor to Han. The internet quickly fell in love with the idea, mainly because Woody Harrelson is one of the few actors that everyone seems to agree is a gift to every movie he’s in.
And now thankfully none of us have to fall out of love with that idea since the casting just became official.
Of course this didn’t come with any extra news or details about the film. It still doesn’t have a title. It still doesn’t have a plot. We still don’t even know at what point in the Star Wars timeline it takes place. But a statement from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller does tell us – and this is of crucial importance to fans – Woody Harrelson is “very good at ping pong.”
That’s the fun Star Wars news for the day. The bummer news is that a live-action Star Wars TV show is not happening any time soon. Speculation has swirled around such a show for years, with George Lucas reportedly having been deep in development on a potential series before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney.
Disney, however, has no immediate plans to do anything live-action with Star Wars on TV. That will remain the domain of the movies, with Disney/ABC TV honcho Ben Sherwood telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks. But I wouldn’t get anybody’s hopes up too high. They have a lot of movies to make between now and then.”
That doesn’t mean there won’t be any new Star Wars TV shows, though. Sherwood did tease that they’re currently working with Lucasfilm to figure out what could be the next Star Wars animated show. Oh, and speaking of Star Wars animated shows, now’s a good reminder that Rebels just started its season back up, and this time with Obi-Wan Kenobi in the mix.
