Stella Maeve teases an ‘extremely intense’ Julia & Marina scene for ‘Magicians’
When even the most ruthless hedge witch in Manhattan is willing to put grudges aside to help your cause, you know you’re in over your head. Marina (Kacey Rohl) might have been a bit of a villain in “The Magicians” Season 1 — but now she’s Julia’s (Stella Maeve) best hope of luring Renard (Mackenzie Astin) into a trap.
Marina has always been an intriguing character, no matter how twisted or psychotic she’s seemed. She proved that last season, when she put a patch on Julia’s memory to try to remove the trauma of her rape and replace it with something beautiful. She may not be cuddly, but she’s not totally evil.

And who better to lure Renard into The Beast’s (Charles Mesure) trap than one of the most powerful hedges we know?
Unfortunately, if even Marina is running scared at this point, then Renard is probably the most evil, powerful thing we’ve seen yet. Heck, even The Beast is nervous — that’s got to tell you something.
Honestly, we kind of love that Marina is back in action, and so is Stella Maeve.
“I think Kacey is awesome,” Maeve says. “She was so much fun to work with, and we had such a good time. She brings this element of play and theatrics to it, and I really like her as a person. We have an amazing scene coming up. I can’t say what it is, but it’s extremely intense, and it was so hard to shoot — but hard in the most gratifying way … It’s in episode four, I think.”

We’ve seen the aforementioned scene, and it’s probably one of the most powerful in a season that is already a powerhouse on its own.
Back at Brakebills, the four Kings and Queens of Fillory have finally found a weapon to help them take down The Beast — but they might have their plates full with something else before they can attempt an attack.
In between one whimsical musical performance and the next, The Beast hinted to Julia that he placed some sort of curse on the castle as a “test” for any children of Earth who would attempt to ascend to his throne. It’s safe to say this test is less about character building and more about life or death stakes.
“The Magicians” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.
