Professional mixed martial arts fighter Alex Reid has been turned down by Strictly Come Dancing bosses.
Reid’s management had wanted him to take part in the BBC1 dance show to raise his profile following his marriage to former glamour model Katie Price.
But Beeb producers have snubbed the bid, claiming the cross-dressing cage-fighter is “not BBC1 material”.
“Alex is very co-ordinated, thanks to his fight skills, and fancies himself as a bit of a mover,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.
“But BBC bosses were less than impressed and they made it clear he wasn’t their type of market,” the source stated.
After 34-year-old Reid’s victory in Celebrity Big Brother, his agents thought he would do well in Strictly, and that he would also be able to show viewers his softer side.
“With Alex’s TV and fight commitments, Strictly Come Dancing would not have fitted into his schedule,” a spokeswoman for Reid said.
