‘Supernatural’: Mary Winchester will ‘return to her hunter roots’
Season 12 of “Supernatural” is about to add an old member of the Winchester family back into the mix with the return of the long-dead Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith).
Fans of “Supernatural” know that Mary was a hunter before she settled into a quiet life with John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and her two boys, but they probably never expected to see her return from the dead and finally come face to face with her sons.
Zap2it caught up with the cast of “Supernatural” as San Diego Comic-Con to ask how Mary will fit into the mix, and which characters will be getting the most face time with her.

Obviously her sons Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) top the list, and Ackles says he’s excited to see their almost non-existent relationship grow. “To now have essentially a stranger with him is going to take a little bit of adapting and getting used to and trying to fill in the last 30 some odd years that she’s been gone.”
Samantha Smith, who has played Mary Winchester since Season 1, chimed in that we can expect Mary to return to her hunter roots. “There’s a lot of ass-kickery, and there’s a lot self-introspection. There’s a lot different in 33 years,” Smith says.
As for her relationships outside the family, Misha Collins would only tease that Mary and Castiel would be spending a lot of time together in Season 12.
“Supernatural” returns October 13th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
