SuBo’s got a psycho.
The family of Scottish talent show sensation Susan Boyle are calling for the singer’s security team to beef up their survellience of the “Wild Horses” star after a crazed fan began stalking her earlier this month.
Boyle is being been pursued by an unidentified man, who has managed to get her phone number and other personal contact info. Susan contacted the authorities last week, hot on the heels of receiving a string of frightening messages from a man claiming to be her brother Gerry. The mystery man has also been targeting her record company asking for Simon Cowell, according to Gerry himself.
“He is calling Susan and pretending to be me or other relatives. It’s been going on for a while. Susan knows who I am when I get on the phone. She never mistakes me for him. There are some weird people around. But this one is stalking her and has got her number. It is serious. Stalkers can become dangerous,” the older Boyle told Britain’s News of the World over the weekend.
After being catapulted to fame thanks to a stellar showing on the hit UK talent competition Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, Susan’s been subjected to a host of eccentric characters. Earlier this year, Susan was “shaken-up” when she returned home to Scotland after a trip to London to find a teen intruder taking an impromptu tour of her home.
Then the star was bombarded with strange letters from an American woman, who later flew to her home in West Lothian, Scotland.
But this latest obsessed fan has The Boyle Clan trembling on the edge of their seats like no other before. Gerry, for one, is so concerned over the imposter’s calls, he fears it is only “a matter of time” before his famous sister is targeted by an obsessed fan in the same way Beatles legend John Lennon was. Lennon was shot outside his New York City home by Mark Chapman in 1980.
“Susan knows having stalkers goes with the territory. She’s massively well known so having people interested in her is going to happen. It’s down to her management to work it out for her. How has someone been able to contact her? Our family have very serious reservations about whether she has enough security at the moment. She needs protection or it’s a matter of time,” says a fearful Gerry.
“Mark Chapman killed John Lennon because he knew he was an easy target with no security. That’s the same as Susan right now. I’ve been telling them that for ages. It is scary.”
In the meantime, Susan is preparing for a busy winter. She’ll spend much of the rest of the year jet-setting across the Globe promoting her first holiday album, The Gift, which debuts in November.
