The most famous former hobo in America is receiving treatment for his on-going addiction to drugs and alcohol under security that would put Secret Service to shame.

The operators of Origins Recovery Center in Texas says that they’ve locked the facility down to keep snapping paparazzi at bay, TMZ.com reported on Saturday. Center officials tell TMZ that its posted extra security to ensure Ted can focus on his treatment program with the glare of roving lenses nosing into everything that he does.

Williams was “discovered” earlier this month after newspaper reporters uploaded a video of him using his deep, radio-friendly announcer’s voice while panhandling for food alongside the Columbus freeway. The footage soon went viral and Ted found himself thrust into the national spotlight, complete with a media tour that included stops at NBC’s TODAY, The CBS Early Show, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

He even received a bevy of job offers — with The Oprah Winfrey Network, the Cleveland Cavs, and Kraft among the numeorus corportions vying to hire Ted.

But Ted’s good fortune was shortlived.

On Wednesday, the folk hero shipped out to Origins following an appearance on The Dr. Phil Show and a hotel argument with his estranged daughter that summoned police.

An anonymous benefactor — who is not Dr. Phil by the way — is reportedly picking up the tab for Williams’ 30-day stay at Origins.
