The Alamo Drafthouse Will Celebrate Tim Burton All Month Long With "SeptemBURTON"

Everybody knows a Tim Burton movie the second they see one. That’s simply not something you can say about a lot of Hollywood directors, particularly those working at big budget levels, and yet Burton’s career has remained idiosyncratic for decades. His new movie, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, hits theaters on September 30, which was all the excuse the movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse needed to create SeptemBURTON, a month-long celebration of the artist.

The Alamo Drafthouse isn’t your average movie theater, though, so this won’t be your average marathon of movies right before a new release. Every Drafthouse around the country is going all out for SeptemBURTON and we’ve got the early details. Where to start?

The Movies

Every Alamo Drafthouse location will be putting on retrospective screenings of classic Burton movies. The full lineup of movies hasn’t been revealed yet, but we know it will definitely include Batman (1989), Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. These retrospectives will be showcased as just the movie, but also offered in special “Movie Party” events with contests, props and other assorted surprises. They’re also encouraging costumes for those particular screenings, so start putting together your Beetlejuice getup now.

The Food

The Alamo Drafthouse is famous for a few things, most notably an enforced no-talking policy and for serving food and drinks right to your seat. Obviously they’re going to create a special menu for SeptemBURTON. It includes, but is not limited to:

– Jokers Laughing Fish: Roasted Barramundi with a Paprika Smile. Wild Rice Pilaf with Spinach, Tomatoes & Roasted Bell Pepper Vinaigrette.

– Peculiar Chocolate Pudding: Lemon & Basil Chocolate Pudding Layered With Whipped Cream. Butter Fried Toast Garnish.

– Bat Burger: Beef Brisket & Short Rib Burger, Bacon, Arugula, Tomato, Ghost Pepper Jack Cheese & Bacon-Ancho Tomato Spread.

– Scissor Chopped Salad: Romaine, Cabbage, Croutons, Blue Cheese Dressing. Topped With Shish Kabob Vegetables.

The Magazine

Recently the Alamo Drafthouse began publishing a fantastic magazine called Birth.Movies.Death., so naturally September’s issue is going to be dedicated to Burton. That alone is great, but what makes this particularly cool are front and back covers featuring original art created by Burton exclusively for the magazine. (You can see the art above.) The special SeptemBURTON issue will be available online, as an add-on to your ticket, or at the box office. Keep in mind these magazines do sell out, so if you want one, get one early.

The Mondo Goodies

Mondo, the art boutique owned by the Drafthouse, is also getting in on the Burton mania. They’ve created special sets of enamel pins inspired by Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Check them out above as well. They’ll be available same as the magazines.

The Contest

Fantastic Fest, a film festival held annually at the Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, is hosting the world premiere of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children .and you can be a part of the fest even from a distance. They’re hosting a “BURTONIZE THIS!” contest where filmmakers can create very short films inspired by Burton’s movies, with the winning film going on to play at the festival. The contest is open now, but do note that while SeptemBURTON runs all month long, the deadline to enter the contest is September 6. Go to FilmmakingFrenzy.com for more details.
