‘The Vampire Diaries’ Originals: 10 people who should emerge from the coffins
Still, we haven’t given up on our dream of being the best backseat casting director ever, so we’re back with some new suggestions as to who will play the remaining two Originals.
At least, we think there are only two left. If Mama Original bore 7 children, then only two remain to be met, since one died in Europe, Henrik was killed, and we already know Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. Some fans speculate that the first dead kid doesn’t count and that Stefan is actually carting around four coffins, including Elijah’s. We’ll see!
There’s no word yet on who the remaining Originals may be (though other sites have reported an Original named Finn is on his way, we haven’t been able to confirm that the character is actually one of the siblings, so we’re holding off!). While we wait for word from our sources, we figured we’d have a little fun and make some wild (and not-so-wild) suggestions as to who might be next to join the family.
Taylor Swift: We know this sounds crazy, but back in Season 1 a role on “The Vampire Diaries” was actually written for T-Swift. She turned it down and it went to someone else, but maybe now that the show has proven its staying power, she’d like to sink her teeth into a fun, powerful role. Sure, her turn in “Valentine’s Day” didn’t exactly scream “award-winning actress,” but she’s believable enough in her wide variety of music video roles, and we’d love to see her go toe-to-toe with Rebekah.
Matt Barr: The Originals we’ve seen thus far have all been European noblemen… but maybe one of the brothers stuck around backwoods Virginia and went downright redneck. Barr’s good ol’ boy accent melts even the coldest, blackest of hearts, but we’ve seen him get dark and terrifying on “One Tree Hill,” too. Basically, we really miss Barr since “Hellcats” ended (yeah, we watched that show; no, we don’t know why) and we just need him back on our TV. Preferably without a shirt.
Amber Benson: Yes, we know, Benson has already done the vampire thing, on “Buffy” and “Supernatural.” But when it ain’t broke, why fix it? Plus, we think The CW owes her a favor after her much-hyped role on “Ringer” turned out to be a 12-second dud. Benson has a spacy, dream-like quality to her that would completely unnerve Stefan and Damon as they tried to pry further into the Original family history.
Jason Dohring: Another actor who has played a vampire. Another actor whose role on “Ringer” isn’t as awesome as deserved. This “Veronica Mars” bad boy would fit right in as Klaus’s calculating little bro — he’d shut down Damon’s every one-liner and he’d do it with flourish. Plus, there’s something about Dohring that gives us the uh-oh feeling, no matter how sweet he’s trying to be. If that doesn’t scream badass vampire, what does?
Michael Cassidy: Williamson cast Cassidy as a sort of “teen Dexter” on his short-lived CW series “Hidden Palms,” so we don’t see why he shouldn’t call up an old colleague. Though he’s definitely got what it takes to play the creepy sociopath angle, we particularly love Cassidy when he’s playing a character with a golden retriever demeanor. An Original who is actually nice? Crazier things have happened. The whole murderous rage thing has to get old after a few centuries.
Christopher Egan: Sexy accent? Check. Adonis-like good looks? Check. Egan caught our eye years ago with a brief appearance on “Everwood,” but he really struck gold on NBC’s “Kings.” Unfortunately, that show was too awesome for the American public to handle, and it was canceled early, but Egan was swoon-worthy as a re-imagining of the Biblical David. Did we mention his sexy accent?
And finally…
Weigh in with your choices below! We’ll see you on January 5, 2012, when “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Secret Circle” return from their holiday hiatus.
