‘Toy Story 4’ Is Coming in 2017

Disney CEO Bob Iger just announced that Toy Story 4 is coming in June of 2017.

We don’t know much about the movie at this point other than it will be directed by Pixar’s own John Lasseter, whose directorial credits include Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Cars and Cars 2. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess as to how it’ll fit into where the story was left off in 2010’s Toy Story 3 and which characters will be returning.

The story for Toy Story 4 was cooked up by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton (Wall-e), Pete Docter (Up), and Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3). It’ll be written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever). Here’s what Lasseter had to say about the project:

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.”

Toy Story 4 will hit theaters on June 16, 2017. Until then, you can catch up with Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang in the TV special Toy Story That Time Forgot, airing on December 2, 2014.
