TV.com’s Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision (December 17)

Happy weekend, everyone! It’s with a mix of excitement and sadness that we present you with the very last edition of Swell-o-vision vs. Hell-o-vision for 2011. Are you pumped? Sad? Distraught? Either way, don’t you fret: Starting Monday, we’ll be kicking off our annual Top 100 Everything of 2011 countdown, which is kinda like a whole year’s worth of Swell-o-vision in ten handy installments. And then we’ll be back in 2012 with more TV-related loves and hates. For now, though, here’s what we loved and hated about TV this week:

Swell:

Louis C.K.’s Reddit AMA and internet special

The world’s best stand-up and creator, editor, producer, director, and caterer of Louie spent a few hours on the popular message board this week and candidly answered fans’ questions. The event was a thank you to the site, which delivered people to his latest experiment: a web-only stand-up special designed to cut out studio middlemen and give power to artists. It’s only five bucks, and we highly recommend supporting the cause.

Community‘s “Community on the Internet” de-briefs:

They’re all great, but the latest installment, a behind-the-scenes look at “Regional Holiday Music,” is hosted by creator Dan Harmon, features cameos by Richard Ayoade (nerd comedy explosion!) and Annie’s boobs, and is a good way to deal with the show being off the air.

This SNL holiday card, featuring everyone’s favorite club kid, Stefon

New York’s hottest club is called SQUAW and features human turkeys. That’s when a dwarf rolls up into a fetal position and grandma presents him to the table on a serving platter. For more TV holiday card goodness, check out Fox’s season’s greetings with the cast of Sons of Anarchy.

Howard Stern joining America’s Got Talent

This will be “Hell” for a lot of people, but it’s not like AGT is some untouchable classic. A good move on NBC’s part to bring some new life to the talent show.

True Blood for Christmas

The HBO hit is not for everyone.

This Breaking Bart mash-up

What happens when The Simpsons meets Breaking Bad? Ned Flanders becomes Walter White, Bart becomes Jessie, and Jane becomes… something. Why did it take us so long to realize that the two shows’ respective lawyers are the same people?

Hell:

Golden Globes snubs and flubs

Breaking Bad, Parks and Recreation, and Community didn’t get any love from the HFPA. Glee is nominated for Best Comedy. What is this world coming to? Occupy the Globes! (Actually, please don’t.)

19 Kids and Counting‘s Duggar family released photos of their miscarried baby’s corpse

This is just the most awful, hellacious thing we’ve seen in a long time.

Maddy’s quest for a new “core” for her “plex” on Terra Nova

Let us fill you in: Maddy’s laptop/iPhone/studybook needed a new battery, so she tried to trade a wheel to a guy in a wheelchair in exchange for a new one, but the guy had already gotten a new wheel and recommended that she try to trade with the colony’s shady bartender. She offered to help the shady bartender with his accounting, but he recognized her as the daughter of the chief of security, and just gave her a new battery instead. No one does completely pointless storylines better than Terra Nova.

Common’s new video will premiere during Hell on Wheels this weekend

The rapper-turned-actor will debut his latest video during the show he stars on. This behind-the-scenes partner negotiation feels clunky and forced, and it’s a train we would rather not get on.
