Warner Bros. Wants Ben Affleck to Direct ‘The Stand’

You might covet things like an iPad, iPhone or fancy Blu-ray player; studios covet talent — as well as making money. Warner Bros. is hoping this brings both: according to Deadline, the studio wants Ben Affleck to write and direct its adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Stand,’ though no deals have been worked out and its unknown whether Affleck himself has interest. If this does happen, Affleck would replace (“replace”) David Yates, who was the rumored choice back in August. At the time, the ‘Harry Potter’ director and his ‘Potter’ screenwriter Steve Kloves were “finalizing deals” to make ‘The Stand,’ according to HitFix. Guess they didn’t get finalized.

Affleck has become a strong player for Warner Bros., directing ‘Gone Baby Gone’ and ‘The Town’ to much acclaim and financial reward. He’s currently filming the Iranian hostage drama ‘Argo’ for the studio, which is set to get released next September.
