Watch: Halle Berry Is Like the Anti-Liam Neeson In First 'Kidnap' Trailer

Person gets kidnapped, someone who cares about said kidnapped person comes looking for them. It’s a hard movie formula to mess up, plus when it’s done right it can be hugely successful. Like Taken. Not only did that spawn a franchise (and soon a TV series), but it also gave us one of the best phone conversations ever captured on film: “I can tell you I don’t have money, but what I do have is a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.”

Now take the exact opposite of that conversation and you’ve got the premise of Kidnap, a movie where Halle Berry plays an ordinary mom with no particular set of skills. Heck, she doesn’t even have a cell phone because she loses it right after her son is kidnapped. So, yeah, she’s not quite the retired CIA agent. What she does have, though, is a minivan and a lead foot, so she starts barreling down the highway in pursuit of her special little man.

Kidnap looks s bit silly, but it also looks like the kind of silly that can often result in highly entertaining thrillers like Cellular or Berry’s other recent movie about a kidnapping, The Call.

Kidnap hits theaters on December 2, 2016.
