Watch List: 7 must-see shows for Jan. 1-6
After a short holiday hiatus, TV is back in a big way in 2017. An old favorite returns after nearly three years off the air, plus a couple new reality shows are definitely must-watch, at least for the first few weeks.
‘Sherlock’ Season 4 premiere, 9 p.m., Sunday, PBS
After a three-year hiatus, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are finally back as the crime-solving duo Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson — and in Season 4, baby makes three, as Watson and his new bride prepare to become parents.
‘Wishful Drinking’ encore, 9 p.m., Sunday, HBO
HBO is honoring Carrie Fisher by airing an encore presentation of the feature-length adaptation of her one-woman Broadway show “Wishful Drinking.” It’s a must-watch for fans of the late, great Princess Leia.

‘New Celebrity Apprentice’ premiere, 8 p.m., Monday, NBC
Trump is out, The Governator is in. Don’t even act like you don’t want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s version of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which has gotten a face life and moved to Los Angeles.
‘Bones’ final season premiere, 9 p.m., Tuesday, FOX
After 11 seasons, it’s time to start saying goodbye to your favorite Smithsonian crime solvers. The 12th and final season kicks off with “The Hope in the Horror,” which sees Brennan (Emily Deschanel) rescued from Zack Addy (Eric Millegan) — but it’s just the beginning of the team’s problems.
‘Vivica’s Black Magic’ premiere, 10 p.m., Wednesday, Lifetime
Did you know Vivica A. Fox is launching a Lifetime reality show where she creates an all-male exotic dance troupe? Yes, really! And who wouldn’t want to watch that?!
‘Superstore’ & ‘The Good Place’ return, 8 p.m., Thursday, NBC
If you aren’t watching these two excellent comedies on NBC, you’re really missing out. They’re witty, clever and have a lot to say — plus both are available to binge on Hulu, so get caught up and join in.
