Watch out ‘Gotham,’ here comes hormonal Bruce Wayne
Strange things are afoot in “Gotham.” Sure, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) has been elected mayor of Gotham City and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) has been named his chief of staff, but that’s not what we need to talk about.
Instead, let’s take a deep dive into teen angst. Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has finally discovered his hormones and they are all aimed at Selina (Camren Bicondova). All it took to unlock this new side of Bruce was having his clone kiss Selina — simple stuff.

When he realized that Selina has kissed another boy, it set him down a very hormonal road. A road filled with jealously, anger and a bit of sadness. Truth be told, Selina is Bruce’s only friend that isn’t a middle-aged British man named Alfred (Sean Pertwee). It’s only natural that she would become the object of his romantic affection.
Of course, that’s likely going to be painfully awkward when the two see each other. It’s not a one-sided attraction, though. While Bruce and Selina may not understand their feelings just yet, the clone sure does and used it to twist that knife a little further before disappearing, telling Bruce to thank Selina for the kiss. Well played, creepy fake Bruce.

Naturally it’s Alfred who gives us the best tease of what’s likely to come from hormonal teen Bruce. When Bruce asks him if he thinks the clone really kissed Selina, he rolled his eyes and offered a simple “bloody hell.”
His exasperation at the situation is definitely warranted. After all, everyone knows how unstable Bruce Wayne becomes as an adult. Imagine all of that rage and misplaced aggression in a hormonal teenagers who’s bummed out about a girl.

Forget the monsters, Mayor Cobblepot and his posse of thugs and psychopaths and even the Mad Hatter. Grumpy and hormone-crazed Bruce Wayne is the real threat to Gotham City.
Those first crushes can be vicious, especially when they don’t work out. And given the trajectory of their story in the comics, we can pretty much tell it won’t. Bruce and Selina go in and out of each other’s lives throughout the history of the “Batman” franchise. They definitely don’t settle down as teenagers and spend their lives together, though.

When Bruce figures that out, he may not take it well. There may be no cowl or cape yet, but that bat attitude is just waiting to be unleashed.
Watch out, “Gotham.”
