Who is ‘The Originals’ villain and how do they connect to ‘The Vampire Diaries’?
The battle between Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and the Mikaelsons likely isn’t coming to an end anytime soon on “The Originals” but there’s a bigger threat in play at the moment. The scariest part of that is nobody knows what, exactly, that threat is.
There’s some kind of supernatural being — which we’re dubbing the big angry blue ball of light — and it’s setting its sights on the children of New Orleans. So far though, that’s about all we know.
It’s been revealed that the mark of this particular villain is an ouroboros (dragon or serpent eating its own tale) and whoever or whatever it it, it’s connected to Hope (Summer Fontana). In the Season 4 premiere of “The Originals,” Hope was seen drawing the symbol, before it was hinted that the person or thing in question was haunting her nightmares.

Based on a description of the March 31 episode, it might not be long before the true nature of whoever this villain is becomes public knowledge. “Vincent tells Marcel terrible secrets about his ex-wife as they track a witch who is planning to sacrifice children,” it reads. Could this witch be the one terrorizing the kids? It certainly adds up.
That said, we’re betting this is only the beginning of whatever the mystery of this villain happens to be. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Julie Plec teased of the season, “We wanted to shape it like a Stephen King novel this season and really draw from our favorite books, like ‘It,’ and introduce this really dark presence that is controlling the supernatural community of New Orleans.”
If the witch in question is what’s controlling the community, don’t expect them to be easily dispatched by Marcel and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood). With so much on the line — including Hope — there’s bound to be some Mikaelsons in this fight. After all, do you really think Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) would stay in the background while their daughter is in danger?

How does this villain connect to “The Vampire Diaries,” though? It all comes back to the ouroboros. A modified version of the same symbol was emblazoned on Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) casket on “TVD.” While the mythology of the mark was never really explored by the series, perhaps it could mean more when it comes to “The Originals.”
The symbol itself has a number of different meanings, the most frequent of which are infinity or the idea of creation out of destruction. If this witch is sacrificing children — in other words destroying them — what is the creation coming from it?
That’s a question that only the show can answer as Season 4 rolls on.
“The Originals” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
