Who Will Star Opposite Han Solo? The Search Narrows to These Women
Earlier this year, we felt a disturbance in the Force when it was announced that Alden Ehrenreich would star as Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie. We know that the story will focus on “the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.” But will other familiar characters be involved? And what about new characters?
We’ve heard that Lando Calrissian will be featured; Donald Glover has been touted for the role. Now comes word via Variety that — above, left to right — Tessa Thompson (Creed), Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) have all been tested for the female lead.
Reportedly, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are taking their time before deciding on the right actors for the key roles of Lando Calrissian and the female lead, whose character name has not yet been revealed. Indications are that Glover may still be in the mix as Calrissian, Han’s friend who was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original Star Wars movies.
As to the three actresses mentioned, they’re all up and coming performers whose careers would be boosted by the role. After Creed, Thompson moved on to HBO’s Westworld and will soon be seen in Thor: Ragnarok.

Kravitz has scored roles in X-Men: First Class, Divergent, Dope and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Of the three leading candidates, Scott has the fewest screen credits so far; she began as a singer before snaring a variety of film and television roles.

We imagine that sparks will need to fly fairly quickly between the young Han Solo and the female lead. Production is expected to begin early next year, with the still untitled movie scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
