Will CBS give ‘Gifted Man’ a full season?

Friday ratings are here and once again, CBS’ new supernatural medical drama A Gifted Man is locked onto its usual modest number.

Gifted had 8.6 million viewers and its standard 1.2 adult demo rating, ranking as CBS’ lowest-rated Mon-Fri primetime show of the week. It’s lead-outs — CSI: NY (10.7 million, 1.8) and Blue Bloods (10.8 million, 1.7) — are stronger. We keep hearing CBS is on the verge of picking up Thursday’s Person of Interest and Tuesday’s Unforgettable for full seasons, while the rumor mill has been quiet on Gifted Man. CBS seems likely to air all 13 of the episodes, keeping the troublesome 8 p.m slot filled through the holidays. We would expect to at least hear about an order for more scripts next week if the show is going to continue beyond that.

So CBS tied ABC for the night, with the latter airing a two-hour Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (5.6 million, 1.4) and the premiere of 20/20 (7.6 million, 2.1). The news magazine was the night’s top-rated show and returned higher than last year.

Also Friday, Fox had Kitchen Nightmares (3.5 million, 1.4). Fringe was a repeat — and fans probably don’t even know that yet because more than half of them don’t watch the show on Friday nights (how dare you have a social life!).

Nikita (1.7 million, 0.6) and Supernatural (1.8 million, 0.7) see-sawed, with Nikita up a tick and Supernatural down.
