Will Kiefer Sutherland dust off Jack Bauer for ’24: Legacy’?
Kiefer Sutherland and “24” are both returning to the airwaves in the 2016-17 TV season — but not together. Sutherland is starring on ABC’s new political thriller “Designated Survivor” and “24” is returning on FOX with “Legacy,” starring Corey Hawkins, Miranda Otto and Jimmy Smits.
Of course, everyone is wonder if Sutherland, who is an executive producer on “24: Legacy,” will be dusting off Jack Bauer for a guest-starring stint. Speaking with a small group of reporters at the 2016 TCA summer press tour, Sutherland does not have great news for the Bauer fans out there.

“[Guest-starring] is not something that I’m thinking of and certainly not [executive producer] Howard Gordon … I’ve always said with regards to ’24’ that the idea was the star of that show and I think the audience will realize that, honestly. I think this new version of 24 is gonna be really exciting and I wish them they best. But once I transitioned or pivoted into shooting [‘Designated Survivor’], I became solely focused on this and that’s where I’m at right now,” says Sutherland.
He adds that he is enjoying being a part of the show’s next iteration, though.

“For this new show (“24: Legacy”), I think the first few scripts are really, really solid, I think they’ve cast them really cleverly and Howard would run ideas or let me know what they were thinking almost as a courtesy and he certainly didn’t need to, but I told him that I thought the direction they were heading was really exciting and really cool.”
“Designated Survivor” premieres Sept. 21 on ABC and “24: Legacy” premieres Feb. 5, 2017 on FOX.
