Sad News, ‘Crunchers: Comedian Greg Giraldo died on Wednesday.

The Queens native — who tickled our funny bones as a staple on The Howard Stern Show, judge on Last Comic Standing, and a regular at Comedy Central Roasts — passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ this afternoon. Greg’s death comes only five days after the funnyguy was rushed to facility following a prescription drug overdose in his Garden State hotel room. Giraldo collapsed shortly before taking the stage at a local nightclub last week.

He never regained consciousness.

“Our buddy Giraldo left us today. Please say a prayer for him and his family,” fellow comic and longtime friend NIck DiPaolo said on Twitter this afternoon.

Giraldo — who graduated from Columbia University and attended Harvard Law School — often used his struggles with addiction as part of his side-splitting act, however the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.

Greg Giraldo was 44.
