American Idol and Portland: They go together like McDonald’s cheeseburgers and organic home-pickling. And by that I mean they are diametrical opposites—Hollywood flash vs. Oregonian indie cred—and therefore do not go together particularly well at all. But as we all know by now (we watch Portlandia), there’s as much forced artifice going down in Portland’s counter-culture as there is on the Idol stage. And say what you will about Idol
