The original cast of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music will reunite for the first time in 45 years on The Oprah Winfrey Show Oct. 29.

Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer will both appear alongside the stars who played the fictional von Trapp family in the Oscar-winning 1965 movie musical, Harpo Productions says. Andrews, 74, played the mischievous nun turned governess Maria in the hit film and Plummer, now 81, is best remembered as the stern Captain von Trapp, who leads his family out of Austria just before World War II. The cast is expected to discuss the impact of the film and how their involvement in it shaped their lives. Some of the real von Trapp Children, who travel the world performing the songs made famous by the movie, will also appear and pay tribute to the film on the TV show.

For more than 40 years, Plummer has refused to reunite with the cast of Sound, blaming the hit film for being typecast as an uptight leading man for years after.

“It is not a film which I detest. The press have always got that wrong. I didn’t hate the movie at all. I just didn’t think my role was terribly exciting,” Plummer said in an interview with Reuters earlier this year.

The Sound of Music won five Academy Awards — including Best Picture — while its soundtrack, which featured showstoppers like “My Favorite Things” and “Edelweiss,” has gone 12 times platinum internationally since its release.
