Those of us old enough to remember when people wore fanny packs and New Wave pop ruled the Billboard charts look back on the late ’80s comedy Weekend at Bernie’s with a chuckle and smile.

But for some film fans (namely rappers….), the 1989 hit — about a pair of insurance salesmen (Andrew McCarthy, Jonathan Silverman) who get invited to their crooked boss’ beach house for a weekend only to find him dead on arrival — is the inspiration behind a new dance craze sweeping some parts of the Dirty South.

No…seriously.

Over the course of the movie, the two employees try to convince others on the beach that Bernie is still alive in order to find out how he died. Somehow, the movie warranted a sequel in 1993, in which Bernie is turned into a ghost who sets out to find the money that Bernie stashed from his insurance fraud scam.

The plot was too much to resist for rapper Isa. The Shreveport, Louisiana emcee has become a small celeb in his Gulf Coast hometown, thanks to his song “Movin Like Berney,” inspired by the movie, and created a dance to go along with it.

Sometimes…there simply are no words. What will they think of next?
