159 people killed as plane crash landed at Mangalore airport

159 passengers have died today when a state-of-the-art Air India Express plane crash landed at the Mangalore’s Baje airport. The plane overshot the runway when it was trying to land.

According to Air India personnel director Anup Shrivastava, “As far as the information available with us is concerned, eight persons were rescued and shifted to local hospitals in Mangalore for their treatment.’’ Out of the eight persons who were rescued, one has died on way to the hospital.

The Boeing 737-800 was piloted by British national of Serbian origin and was carrying 160 passengers on board along with six-member crew. The reports say that the plane crashed into the thick valley of forest after it slammed through a boundary wall at the airport. The airport has a table top runway as against usual flat runaway.

Black box of the plane is being searched for finding the clues of the crash. The visibility was more than required at the time of the plane landed. Director General of Civil Aviation will conduct an inquiry to find out the causes that led the crash.
