Bernadette Peters, Mary Tyler Moore to host Broadway Barks

Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadett Peters and actress Mary Tyler Moore will host the 12th anniversary of Broadway Barks! – the dog and cat adopt-a-thon extravaganza which will be held in Shubert Alley.

“It”s like therapy between shows,” the New York Daily News quoted Peters as saying.

Last year, more than 200 cats and dogs from 27 participating shelters and rescue groups were adopted through this show.

While Peters loves spending time with her pooches, she says there”s one simple reason the mighty mutts won”t be hanging out in her dressing room at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

“They love the spotlight and bark when the audience applauds,” she explained.

Still, Peters takes comfort that her pets will be waiting for her when she returns from the grueling theater schedule.

“They”re like my bedrock. The world can be falling apart, and when all else fails you can rely on your dog, “ she added.
