… [Tim whistles The X-Files theme] Chris Carter, creator of the Fox smash The X-Files, is returning to television after a long absence. He’s working with MRC (the production company that infamously rented a night’s worth of TV space from The CW a few seasons back) on a project of his own; the show is a mystery with a central female character. Carter’s The X-Files helped pave the way for sci-fi on network TV and popularized serial/case-of-the-week hybrids. Carter also mentored Vince Gilligan, who created the best show on television, Breaking Bad. Welcome back, Chris! [Deadline Hollywood]
… There was only one series premiere last night: ABC’s comedy Suburgatory. With positive reviews backing it up, it drew 9.81 million people and a 3.3 rating, improving on its established lead-in The Middle. Good start for a good new show. [TV By the Numbers]

… It’s just a guess, but Stetsons and spurs might be quite trendy next fashion season. Fox has joined every other TV network in putting a Western into development, this one about the legendary Wyatt Earp. Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci (Transformers, Fringe) are producing. … Oh my dog. Disney Channel has ordered a pilot called Dog With a Blog, about a talking dog who has his own blog. I know you probably picked up on that from the show title, but it’s so incredibly awesome I had to say it FOR REAL. It’s about a dog who blogs! On his computer! Did you hear me? It’s a DOG WHO BLOGS! And there’s gonna be a television show about it! How long before the dog starts posting sexy pics of himself on Twitter like Miley Cyrus does? [Deadline Hollywood]
… NBC is working on an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard short story from the same collection as the short story that inspired Justified. This series will follow a Colombian mail-order bride who become a killer. And it’ll probably be only a fraction as good as it could be if it were on FX. [Deadline Hollywood]
