From ‘Side Hug’ To Putting A Ring On It! Watch Derick Dillard Get Ready To Propose To Jill Duggar While Hiding Boxed Ring In His Pocket: ‘You Can’t See The Bulge Too Much’

The conservative Christian courtship is done — and it’s time to put a ring on it!

The mega-sized Duggar clan on 19 Kids and Counting is about to welcome a son-in-law as Derick Dillard proposes to Jill Duggar on tonight’s TLC midseason finale.

And radio detection and rangingOnline.com has the video preview clip for the big Duggar milestone.

As viewers already know, Jill accepted Dillard’s proposal and they have set a June 21 wedding date. But tonight, fans can go back in time and see how Dillard, who worked as a missionary in Nepal, got ready to ask Jill, 22, to be his wife.

While Jill and her oldest sisters promoted their new relationship book in New York, Dillard told the cameras, “I went to bed last night, I was looking at the ring, laying there, holding it, thinking, wow, I’m going to propose tomorrow to Jill, the most incredible girl ever and today is when I’m going to ask her to marry me.”

Dillard, who had already asked Duggar family dad Jim Bob for Jill’s hand, commented, “I have an idea she suspects something because she’s really smart so it’s hard to pull anything over on her. I think she’ll be expecting something, but maybe she doesn’t know how it’s going to happen or what exactly to expect.”

After carefully spraying his hair, because Jill likes it just so, Dillard (who admitted he didn’t wash his hair for weeks in Nepal!), discussed the proposal with his mom.

“I don’t want to forget the ring,” Dillard said. “That would be terrible to get there and then have to use a fake ring, be like, ‘Well, I left you a ring at home but here’s this one.’”

Dillard and his mother debated him carrying the box in his pocket or just taking the loose ring.

“I’ve never done this before,” said Dillard, who has only been permitted a “side hug” with Jill under strict courtship rules set by her fundamentalist parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

Dillard told his mom, “Jill already said, she’s like, ‘I’m going to know when you’re about to propose because you’re going to have a bulge in your pocket.’”

His mother laughed — and Dillard wound up putting the box with the ring in it in his jacket pocket.

“You can’t see the bulge too much,” he told her.

Dillard said he’d practiced getting down on one knee!

“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and now it’s finally here,” Dillard said.
